5-3/4" x 1-3/4". Pierced with a Dremel and engraving bits. Finished with Seal-A-Cell. The bottom was buffified with white diamond and wax. The entire bowl is one piece (no lid).
This Sycamore Ornament has Walnut finials. It won 1st place in our local, South Kansas Woodturners, club contest for both the lightest and the best looking. It measures about 2 1/2" w x 5" h and has a wall thickness ranging from .030 to .050. The design is comprised of the word, NOEL...
Maple Globe/Walnut Finials, Pierced with a Random Design, 2 x 6 h.
I like to keep the piercing toward the center 2/3 of my ornament globes. I think the solid portion of the globe on the top and bottom make a nice frame for the random piercing.
I like feedback so all comments and...
I have to confess I very much enjoy making these pieces, it is a thrill to watch the piece progress from chainsawing in the field to final airbrushing, not to mention everything in between. Even though a good deal of patience is required. This piece has a copper colour with an over spray of a...
Mulberry. 3.25" wide by 4.75" tall.
This is a rustic piece, as opposed to Mulberry Lace's delicate appearance. I turned the vessel to about .25" thick.
This pieced was worked, for the majority of the detailing, live on my webcam. People from all over the planet watched me...

This is one of those pieces that took WAY too long - Pierced thin wall walnut vase, the piercings are filled with multiple layers of epoxy. Got about 90% finished and it flew off the lathe, requiring a major overhaul. Any and all comments welcome.
Started as a demo for my woodworkers club round robin night. Piece is 4.5"h, 4.5"w. Wall thickness is 1/16" or less. Natural edge. Pierced sapwood border.
This shot shows the great grain in the bottom and how translucent the piece is. I love working with mulberry.

Well it is about time I posted
something on the AAW
again. Another of my Back
Country Stream pieces, this
time I have gone for a
complimentary colour scheme.
The colours on the outside of
the piece are inspired by the
New Zealand Paua shell and a
contrasting colour on the...
This piece of booked matched curly maple didn't need much to enhance it, so I thought some subtle piercing would work. This piece is a bit deeper and more "bowl-like" than the platter I did with a similar look. About 2" h x 10.5" dia
Ornament ball is wood of unknown origin with Black Walnut finials. Size: 2" w. x 6 1/2" h. Ornament globe is about 1/8" thick for ease of piercing. I kept the piercing to the center of the globe because I like the contrast of the smooth surface directly connected to the piercing...
This stands 25 inches to the finial point. bloodwood base morado stand and hackberry shade, blackwood finial.
The shade was a bowl that I dropped and turned into a design opportunity. This lamp won 1st prize yesterday in the Ottawa woodturning competition For the beholder category. For which I...
This black cherry bowl is approx. 9" in diameter and was turned to about 3/32". It was then pierced to the point that it became spring-like when compressed. Sorry for the crummy picture, I hadn't gotten a decent camera at this point.
